Singapore is Asia's most "network ready" country. Singapore Communications is a highly developed sector with good infrastructure, and includes state-of-the-art telecommunication devices like telephone, computer, copiers, internet, broadband, television, radio and many more. Until 1998, it has been recorded that there were about 55 million telephone connections in Singapore.
Out of the 55 million connections 47 million were used by other telecommunication devices like computers and facsimile machines. Singapore's world-class telecommunication services are the reason for the underwater telephone cables which have been built that leads to Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia. The government of Singapore owns the radio and television stations and maintains uniform regulations for all. Internet is another form of communication. Singapore has a large of internet users both for household and official purpose. Most o the households have computers with internet connections. A survey carried out by Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore pointed out that 74% of households possess computers at home and among which 2 in 3 households have Internet access.
