Changi Airport registered strong performance last month to set new
records for passenger traffic and aircraft movements in 2011. The airport
handled a total of 46.5 million passengers and 302,000 aircraft movements last
year, an increase of 10.7 per cent and 14.5 per cent, respectively, compared to
2010, reported Changi Airport Group (CAG) yesterday.
Airfreight movements also recovered to 2008 levels with 1.87 million
tonnes of cargo handled.
Low-cost carriers carried close to 26 per cent more passengers and
accounted for nearly 30 per cent of all flights at Changi last year, while
passenger movements on full service airlines grew 6 per cent. December was the airport's busiest month, with 4.53 million passenger
movements.
As
of Jan 1, Changi handles over 6,300 scheduled flights a week, a 16.7-per-cent
increase from a year ago. Channel NewsAsia
CAG chief executive Lee Seow Hiang described 2011 as an
"eventful" year but he noted this year's outlook "remains
