DESCRIPTION

Electronic games and animation are now an integral part of the enormous global entertainment industry and career opportunities can take you around the world. Imagine being at the cutting edge of enterprises where your decisions and ideas are seen by millions of gaming enthusiasts and movie-goers.

Students will study a core program that provides them with the essential skills required for a wide range of professional IT careers. In addition the Interactive Technologies and Games Design major will equip its graduates with skills relevant to the interactive entertainment and simulation industry. Students will study animation and simulation technologies as well as games design.

The Interactive Technologies and Games Design major focuses on both the front and back end integration of interactive technology design and Interactive technologies – Web 2.0 applications, Digital Media, Web/Mobile Technologies and platforms, 2D/3D Graphics, Animation, Games Design, Computation Arts, Interactive Visualisation, Autonomous Simulation and Virtual Worlds.

The University provides a well-equipped environment, including several state-of-the-art laboratories with specialist facilities for multimedia design and networking. In addition there are small group tutorials and hands-on practical sessions in the laboratories.

This program aims to bridge the gap in the employment market for graduates with the technological and software engineering skills applicable to games design execution. There is an emphasis on professional practise. In the final year project you have the opportunity to work in a team with students from creative arts to produce a product for the games design market; giving students a unique perspective to all aspects of the games design industry.

Our Bachelor of Information Technology program is fully accredited by the Australian Computer Society at the 'Professional Level' (its highest level).

Course structure 3 trimesters per year (normally 4 subjects per trimester)

Subject requirement 24 subjects successfully completed to earn 72 credits. Academic advice on which subjects to take is available during the admissions process and at the end of every term.
Total tuition fees* S$47,765 * including prevailing Goods & Services Tax (GST)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Entrance requirements differ from country to country but in general, applicants must have satisfactorily completed 12 years of schooling or equivalent.

CAREER PROSPECTS

As a games developers you could be working on the creation and production of computer games, handheld games, console games, arcade games, ‘Flash’ games for internet use and games for mobile phones. Everything from creating and designing a game’s look and how it plays, animating characters and objects, creating sound, programming, testing and producing.

Designing games is a multi-billion dollar industry with large games development studios, some of which have bases in Singapore.

There are a wide range of opportunities available within the industry, although competition is intense and you need to demonstrate a high level of achievement.

PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Interactive Technologies and Game Design) is fully accredited by the Australian Computer Society at its highest level, the ‘Professional Level’. As an IT student you are entitled to membership with two professional bodies: The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Singapore Computer Society (SCS).
