Singapore ranks No 2 in use IT for growth



SINGAPORE has retained its world No 2 position on an annual index that tracks how ready countries are in the use of information and communication technologies.
It has held on to this spot for a fourth consecutive year in the Networked Readiness Index (NRI). Finland topped the rankings for the first time, taking over from Sweden.
In a 383-page report published by the World Economic Forum and international business school Insead, Singapore was lauded for its "extreme efficiency and business friendliness of its institutional framework, strong intellectual property protection, intense competition, and high university enrolment rate".
Singapore gained top marks for the friendliness of its political and regulatory environment, as well as its business and innovation environment, which support high levels of infocomm use. It also topped the rankings on the economic and social impact of infocomm technologies, as well as the government's use of technologies.
